Known as the “Taiwanese version of the city in the sky”, it looks like a lost palace from afar! In fact, the 13-storey site is an abandoned industrial site of great historical and cultural significance, and the site of the Shuinandong Refinery was built in 1920 during the Japanese occupation period, so named because of its cascading architectural structure that resembles a thirteen-story building. It is a testament to the boom and bust of Taiwan’s mining industry and is an important part of modern industrial history.

Third stop: Yin Yang Sea

Known for its unique golden yellow color and blue waters, this spectacle was formed because of the large amount of pyrite contained in the neighbouring Jinguashi Mountain. These ores release copper and iron ions after weathering, which enter the water, forming iron hydroxide and adhering to the sediment, creating yellow-brown suspended solids, which eventually lead to the unique appearance of a yellow-blue gradient in the Yin-Yang Sea. The water in the bay is yellow-brown due to the influence of these natural minerals, which contrasts strongly with the blue water of the open sea, like a palette of nature.
At the T-shaped intersection of Dongding-ro and Tai 2-line, there is a straight road leading to the sea, and the blue sky and white clouds are contrasting, reminiscent of the classic scene of the anime “Slam Dunk”, so it is also called “Kokamakura”.

Fourth stop: Gullfoss Waterfall

A beautiful waterfall that can be reached without trekking. The water is rich in minerals and has a golden yellow color, which is why it gets its name, especially when the sun shines on it, and the waterfall shines with golden light.

Fifth stop: Gold Museum
