Taichung is the most prosperous place in Central Taiwan, but the trend cannot catch up with Taipei, and the history is not as good as Tainan, and the vague positioning is always easy for tourists to ignore the city. In fact, in recent years, there have been many must-see cultural and youth attractions in Taichung City, and each district has its own development characteristics. If you visit these cultural spots carefully, you will find that Taichung is not only about night markets and sun cakes.

Itinerary Description
“Green River Waterfront Corridor”

Not far from Taichung Railway Station, the Green River Waterfront Corridor was originally a newly built waterfront trail for water quality improvement and flood control, with the theme of nature and art, with water elements, combined with Miyahara Ophthalmology and historical buildings such as Zhongshan Green Bridge and Sakura Bridge, it has become an emerging check-in attraction. In the early days of the opening, a limited-time art exhibition was held, which was full of Japanese romance and became a hot topic for a while. Originally known as “Xinsheng Creek”, the Green River was renamed Green River in 1912, and it was the highlight river in Taichung’s “Little Kyoto” project at that time, and it is also one of the eight night views of Taichung today.

“Daohe Six Arts Cultural Center”

Daohe Six Arts Cultural Center was built in 1937 and is located on Linsen Road in Taichung, formerly known as the martial arts performance field of Taichung Criminal Affairs Institute. It was originally a dojo for prison officials to practice judo and kendo during the Japanese occupation, but a fire broke out in 2006 that destroyed some of the wooden buildings. It took nearly four years to complete the restoration of the main body and outbuildings. At present, various cultural and artistic activities will be held in the museum from time to time, including archery, kendo, tea ceremony, calligraphy, etc., transforming the former martial arts arena into a learning park with a literary atmosphere.

“Grass Enlightenment”

From the National Taiwan Museum of Natural Science, Qinmei Eslite Green Park Road, and then extended to the area of Civic Square, it is collectively known as Caowu Road. This is the most lively business district in Taipei, and at the same time has static art and cultural activities, you can enjoy both noisy and quiet attitudes in the area. Caowu Road is also the inner garden of Taichung City, and the center point is Caowu Square with sunken architectural design. In addition to shopping and restaurants, there will also be cultural and creative shops and street performers, making it a gathering place for cultural and young people.

“Audit New Village”

Located near Caowu Road, which has a strong literary atmosphere, the audit new village was rebuilt from the staff dormitory group of the government audit office. It was once idle and deserted for many years, but later the Taichung City Government promoted the renovation plan, and the old dormitory was revitalized into a cultural and creative settlement, becoming a new cultural and youth hotspot. There are many cultural and creative shops and cafes, as well as beer shops, record stores and retro barber salons, which are not large in area, but they are very easy to visit and photograph. In addition, there is a regular small market to sell all kinds of handmade goods, which is very atmospheric.

State Opera House

Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the National Opera House took ten years to build, and the whole building adopts a special curved wall construction method to integrate the ceiling, wall and ground, and there is no 90-degree right angle visible from the inside to the outside, so the construction is very difficult, and it is called “the world’s most difficult building” and “the world’s nine architectural wonders”. The National Opera House is open for free admission, except for the theater and the multi-purpose space “Corner Salon”, where you can take photos in the Sky Garden, go shopping in cultural and creative shops, or simply enjoy the beauty of the building’s curves, which is a great place to spend time.
